Patrick Hill
Fetlen
February 26 - April 2, 2022
Patrick Hill's first exhibition with the gallery breaks from his previous sculptural work, shifting scale to focus on gestural painting techniques using dyed concrete on canvas. Fetlen, the title of the exhibition is a middle english word meaning to shape, or to fix in place. Hill’s process of moving the dyed concrete across the canvas relies on prompt, lyrical action. Each work reveals the history of its own making. The viewer may find the work deliberately contemplative, even meditative, as they follow the swift movements of vibrantly dyed concrete. This introspective state is also conjured in the titles of the pieces, pulled from Patrick Hill’s own poetry.
